Besides the actual album being phenominal you really have to listen to it in it's full quality, not the compressed down m4a iTunes version to really appreciate the quality of the sound on this album. It is absolutly beautiful, rich, haunting and just flows over you as you listen and take in every detail of the music. She (usually) takes a long time between albums because she stives for perfection in every aspect of her recording down to the last detail, and she has never disappointed. Her voice has never sounded better....So excited to be seeing her live at Saratoga Mountain Winery, a great venue, in September!

Her music has never been better and a mass audience still seems to evade her. This album won’t likely solve any of that. One of the most personal, mind-blowing mixes of country, rock, blues and pop I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. And the whole album has a psychedelic vibe to it also, sort of spacey planetarium stuff going on with those background guitars. It’s just amazingly unique, even for her.

Tuesday 29th we will be at the Ark, got tickets Sat night 2nd show. Saw Lu at Royal Oak summer 2014, Front Row, great time was had by All. With only 400 seats, this will be the best place to hear this new album, thanks Lu for thinking about going to the great club. WOW, Tue 2/29 at the Ark Lu out did herself, Her Stories about Woodys daughter, trumps dad, To her Rockin in the Free World, Closer was a perfect send off, outside a few people still sing it. Powerful show indeed. Thanks Lu ,PHUKIN' GREAT!

I thought her last CD, DWTSMTB, was one of the best CD's I had heard in ages. These songs come from the same sessions, and my first impression was like that of a previous reviewer who missed the pop rock sound of the previous CD. After listening for a while, I now think these songs are as good if not better. The duelling guitars, lyrics, and melodies are fantastic.

This collection of songs is about as raw and real it gets. I haven't heard something like this since Marianne Faithful's "Broken English." This is one of those "special" records that end up being a rare gem!

I'll admit to missing the confident pop sensibilities of the early albums.

As usual, Lucinda Williams has composed, with her amazing group of studio musicians, an album of incredible lyrics, musicality and originality. As prolific as she is reliable, Lucinda Williams gives her most ardent listeners the opportunity to explore her concepts of fears, solitude, isolation and gritty realities. This album will place the listener into a contemplative and emotional state of being, lost in her lazy vocals and haunted by the lead guitar riffs. Give this album a listen if you want to truly be expose to one of the greatest living American songwriters. It’s a transcendental experience….

Ordered this the day it became available. With the sheer volume of music (I think it will spill over into two CDs) and the bargain price ($8.99? Whaaat?) this is a must-have for any Lu fan who can scratch up the dough to pre-order. The song "Dust" sounds like she's got her Dead vibe going on; maybe Garcia's one of the Ghosts. A different type of guitar sound than on "Down Where The Spirit..." but just as driving. Cannot wait to hear the rest!
