Soooo good - production is exceptional! - I liek eveyr song - each one full of soul and cleverness - and endless medloic hooks. So far, no one A+ song for me - but it is still a 5 star release.

Needtobreathe will always be my favorite band, and I love that they are not afraid to write what they feel and try out different sounds, cause, lets be honest, they rock all of it! So much heart and time goes into their music!
  • It’s not a negative message people

I’ve read some reviews about people saying it’s more negative than other albums. Yeah it’s called life.... just because you are a Christian doesn’t mean you won’t have a down period or experience adversity. Wake up people and really listen to the lyrics. Sometimes you need to tap into mainstream to get other people to listen to some powerful messages and maybe change a few lives along the way.

All around best album they have written. No song is better than the other.
  • I've given it a chance, but it's a no for me.

Every other NEEDTOBREATHE release has been played over and over and over by me. I just can't get into their overly produced sound in Hard Love. I've owned this album since the release, and I'd guess that I've listened to it less than 10 times. These guys have such raw talent in their musicality- their voices & harmony. Their more acoustic shows are the best. I wished they didn't feel the need to "expand" on the sound they produce when their unique, previous sound was what made them stand out and drew in many of us old time fans.

It's by no means bad (other than mountain which is pretty bad ) but it's miles away from their best. The computer generated sounds really don't mesh well in some of the songs ( particularly in the last 50 or so seconds of testify which is otherwise one of the albums best songs ) and while the vocals are fantastic as always they feel less passionate in this album when compared to others. Other than mountain, their ain't a bad song on this album it's just that they're not as good as they could be. Still though they're my favorite band and I'm hopeful for better albums in the future.

While this album has its fair share of catchy and musically impressive songs that are easy and fun to sing along to, it is often a far cry lyrically and stylistically from their past work. Many people after listening to this album have accused NEEDTOBREATHE of becoming sellouts; and while I would disagree with this accusation for the most part, this album definitely sounds like it. The passionate southern rock/alt folk sound previously produced by this band has been replaced with a more pop-like sound (significantly better than most pop music today, but a deviation from their trademark style). The more grounded, sometimes acoustic feel has been shunned for high-energy electric beats. Dull lyrics have substituted the heartfelt, moving, and genuine words of their previous work (with the exception of songs like "Testify"). However, enough with the negative- this album has some darn catchy songs that are far better than most songs on the radio today. They're upbeat, they're fun, and despite the new sounds, there's still that hint of NEEDTOBREATHE soul behind them. Songs like "Happiness" and "Hard Love" are a prime example, and are some of my personal favorites. This is definitely the most fun album that NEEDTOBREATHE has made; however, many of their fans (including me) listen to them for their positive, uplifting, heartfelt music that has often brought restoration to the soul. I certainly hope they don't shy away from this in the future, but as for now, this album's a lot of fun to listen to!
