I guess I don't get the hype, screaming and yelling and terrible lyrics. I guess if that is your thing.
  • Best album of theirs. Ever.

Damaged has helped me get through every hardship in my life. Rollins' singing is blunt and aggressive. 10/10 would listen to again.

Its Black Flag the best hardcore band ever. And to the guy who said social d is not punk. They played with many of the 1980s hardcore punk bands and were considerd part of the pack. They ever toured with youth brigade from california ( not the DC band).

It took me years to figure out if I loved or loathed this album. I grew up on melodic punk like the Misfits and the Pistols and all things inspired by them, but this was pure, terrifying dissonance at times. Now that I'm old and listen to everything I can get my hands on, I recognize this as one of the rawest, most focused and visceral recordings in all of music; and remarkably earnest, lacking the pretension of many things that followed it (no wave, black metal, etc.), yet not a purely stylistic, nihilistic endeavor like much of the heavy music it spawned (Eyehategod, Nirvana, other junkies). This is like a sonic stab to the head, raw aggression and perhaps a bit of young white male testosterone, rounded out by a very palpable sense of misery. And none of this is bad, so give it a chance. Whether they knew it or not, this is art.

Since Damaged was my first exposure to Black Flag it set the bar at an unreasonably high level. Over time I discovered and became fond of the pre-Henry material that set the wheels in motion that would ultimately lead to this 1981 hardcore masterpiece. Keith, Chavo, and Dez each had a different and unique vocal style and some say Keith's era with the band was the best (hard to argue otherwise). But when Rollins, fresh out of the close-knit DC scene, took over the mic - the level of intensity in Black Flag went through the roof. Songs slowed down, built up more momentum, and were decidedly more powerful on Damaged. Rollins' snarling, spitting vocals and painful groans are all but overshadowed by Greg Ginn's searing leads and heavily distorted riffs. The stars were aligned briefly as this lineup of Rollins, Ginn, Cadena, Dukowski, and Robo did not last for long. They recorded some of the material on 1984's masterful My War but only Greg and Henry remained from the Damaged lineup. Raucous, heavy, and raw, Damaged leaves a mark even now.

This is the ugliest most dirt disease filled peace of trash I've ever listened to, and for that reason, it's simply beautiful. Classic Punk, pure Classic Punk

I never was much of a Black Flag fan until I heard this album. This album includes some of the greatest punk songs ever recorded. "Rise Above", "T.V. Party", and "Six Pack" are just classics.

I admit, I like the newer punk music the best. The Offspring is amazing. But Black Flag is hardcore punk, and they do a very good job. This is a really good album for any hardcore punk fan out there. "Rise Above", "What I See", and "Spray Paint" are all awesome songs.
