Mr. Newman again reached down inside himself, down to that deep place, that deep well where the greatest artists seem to find words and music. Incredible

Randy Newman has been away from the album business for a little while and it is tremendous having him back. The songs on Dark Matter are filled with his usual mix of satire and gut-wrenching human feelings that leave me almost breathless. At this point, his songwriting is so concise and focused that each song delivers the punch with a wonderful force that you rarely find in music today. Lost Without You is absolutely searing, while It's a Jungle Out There is so much fun you almost don't realize the satirical wallop he's delivering. This is a great album from a master songwriter and orchestrator.

This one misses the mark for me. I am a long time RN fan. The first song got a lot of attention in the reviews I read, but I don't even feel like it is a song. It's more of a politcal rant. One listen to that song is enough. There are a few good ones in there, but ther rest are weak.
  • Beautifully Done

While listen to the album for the first time I followed along, with an interview Randy Newman recently gave in which he shared the backstory of each song. And I have to say the most touching is the closer, "Wandering Boy". I don't even have children, yet I still found myself in tears.

Randy has been my favorite iconoclast for over 40 years. His new album is brilliant, biting, funny, touching and entertaining in equal measures. Bravo!
  • Thank you Mr. Newman

  • Beautiful satire on another level

Mr. Newman has always created worlds in his albums that comment on interesting things. He's taken it to another level in this album. The charm of Good Old Boy's, the biting satire of Trouble in Paradise, and the usual beautiful orchestration that plays over every Newman album I've ever heard. This man is a true creative mind in action; listen and learn.
  • God damnit Newman, you've done it again.

It's everything I wanted it to be, I’m not dissapointed, album of the year.
