I'm not a huge black metal person, but this is one of my favorite BM records ever. The first track didn't do much for me, but the rest of the album absolutely blew me away. Summer of the Diabolical Holocaust, Unholy Black Metal, To Walk the Infernal Fields, Under a Funeral Moon, and Crossing the Triangle of Flames are all just so good. Buy nao.

This was one of my first black metal albums I ever bought and I almost never bought another because of it. I kept it on my ipod and on a plane ride from Seattle to Miami Natassja in Eternal Sleep came on at a time when I was bored and willing to listen. Life has never been the same since and this is my 2nd favorite Darkthrone album now behind Panzerfaust. On of the more essential albums in metal history, click buy and be patient, it is well worth it.

My favorite song is Unholy Black Metal. I can tolerate the recording quality on this album better than Transilvanian Hunger but thats a great album also.

  • Completing the Transition

Under a Funerl Moon completes Darkthrone's transition from Death Metal to Black Metal. A Blaze in the Northern Sky was good, but it still had the Death Metal riffs of Darkthrone's past. Like Horgh said, Fenriz has perfected his new style of drumming. Walking infernal fields under a funeral moon, this is unholy Black Metal.
  • The True New Wave of Black Heavy Metal

On this album, Darkthrone almost completely throw off the l death metal drumming and riffs of their first two (three if you count Goatlord) full-lengths. Fenriz had perfected his new style of drumming. If you're looking for "technicality", don't expect to find it, but if you want to see how to go about creating ambient music with percussion, then check this out. It's like old Discharge, but more dissonant and depressive. Oh, and with blast beats. I don't think Discharge had those.
