Music as primal force. It’s essential rock listening, but it’s difficult to explain why. A kaleidoscope of sounds and styles from blues/country/jam. Jagger, only 30 at the time, sounds like he’s seen it all, twice. A+

During this period the stones were the best rock n roll band on the planet. The only bands that could rival them were the doors and Led Zeppelin. And that’s saying a lot since this was “the rock n roll era” too many great songs on here a legendary album cover by the legendary Andy Warhol. A must buy if you’re a fan of rock n roll. A lot of primal raw energy on here. The stones absorbed American music and did something better than a lot of their contemporaries did. A must own record

A dessert island album for sure. Remembered it vaguely when I was young, it came out when I was 5, remember the cover and not much else. Then a friend, whose Aunt Patty is married to Keith really turned me on to the album, "Sway" in particular. Mick Taylor's riffs are "FILTHY" in the best way possible, especially the opening salvo of "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'" and Mick still "sings" as opposed to talking his way through lyrics like he currently does. I love "Exile" and "Get Yer Yaya's Out", but that's a live, not a studio album... LOVE "Dead Flowers" and the coda of "Moonlight Mile" is PERFECT. Read different stories of how the song came to be, one was Keith fiddling on the guitar at home, tape recorder running... after LOOOOOONG silence, the base riff was heard which he called Chinese Noodling. The other story was Mick wrote basically the whole song while riding a train. Either way, beautiful song and a great way to close out a brilliant album. Became such a fan that I searched forever for an original vinyl pressing, with the zipper. Found an original factory sealed copy, which is one of my favorite collected vinyl albums

Growing up, we had the LP with the authentic zipper glued into the dust jacket... and what was inside was FAR filthier than that. The band's chemistry on this album is simply out of this world. It'll last as long as Bach and Mozart, and it remains etchd in the reveries.

Exile On Main Street has got nothing on this. It’s not my favorite Stones album but I love it. Sticky Fingers is great while half of the songs on Exile are filler.
