In the song Simple Gifts, I thought the guy on the album picture was singing there. ANd I was like, "Wait...what?" for a second. But still, the beautiful strings in this album are amazing. (Alison Krauss is awesome as well)

wow. this is an epic CD! yo-yo incorperates less known pieces into his works and the outcome-- just wow. my favorite has to be the American Collection Theme, by far the best sounding of the pieces he plays. I love all the harmony transferring and the intricate melodies weaving through the other instruments, its an overall classic. i listen to it to go to sleep:) check it out! However, i must also give Allison Krauss credit, for she is indeed great and her duet with yo-yo just made my day:D very enjoyable, also reminds me of The Prayer by Josh Groban and Charlotte Church, who were both both trained in opera. So if you like this music, try them out! Love the music, yo-yo!!! Keep going!:D

On the whole, a very pleasant listening experience. There is nothing too challenging for the ear. However, a bit more creative programming utilizing less well known pieces by interesting composers would have been appreciated as I like being introduced to less familiar works. As it is, I already have too many recordings of Vocalise arranged for any number of different instrumental combinations. I like the tangos (one of which appears on many contemporary tango CDs) and Simple Gifts is elegant and....well, simple. All in all, great background music for a good dinner with friends.

This is an incredible display of all of Yo-Yo Ma's popular songs and symphonies. I am left with simple thoughts such as phenominal and breathtakingly beautiful after listening to this album. Although I play viola, I really enjoy the cello and the soothing sound it produces when played, and Yo-Yo Ma has certainly pleased me with his beautiful playing and melodies. I really hope he continues to play for as long as possible, and I will always be a fan.
  • Best Cellist hands down

I began playing the cello three years ago, and had only heard of Mr. Ma as a famous musician before that. Now he is hands down my Favorite classical artist ever! This was my first cd of him, and I am looking forward to buying the new one with the Chicago Orchestra. The tango sensations are catchy and keep you guessing and 1B by Meyer has that background tempo that hold you through the whole piece. I am looking forward to hearing more from Yo Yo Ma.

Dude, before you write a review of Yo-Yo Ma, at least learn to spell the name of his instrument correctly. Its CELLO!!!! This album is great. He puts so much passion into his music and plays so perfectly it makes me feel like a total loser when I play.
  • Extravagently Extrapolated Style

The way Yo-Yo seems to pull style from thin air and transfuse it into his playing is absolutely miraculous. He doesn't stick with the same style for each peice, but rather, as if plucking it out of the composer's mind, he brings the perfect thing to the table each time.
  • i am awed by all of his albums

all of these compositions are played with such grace. Especially the Pizzolla Tango Sensations(Fear). Yo-Yo Ma is the next classic.
  • just my opinion

Yo-Yo ma makes my heart race. This album is interesting to me because it's a bit of an ecclectic mix, and while I appreciate the continuity of other albums, I just can't deny how moved I am by each and every one of these tracks
