  • Should have been titled, "Medusa"

It seems like the sorta musical accompaniment I'd expect to hear if I ever had the misfortune of seeing a Gorgon, that is. I felt like I was gonna turn to stone just by listening to it. That may seem like a bad thing, (and I suppose it would be,) but the genius is that it's THAT intense!
  • Refreshing and new

I love what’s been coming out during and post covid, and this album shows Danny Elfman still got it, it’s a masterpiece and something brand new and unexpected from the musical genius. He’s done something for himself during lockdown and the album is a beautiful piece of music
  • Inventive and full of charm

These songs have a lot of personality and unique approaches to music in general. There’s nothing out there that quite sounds like this so it’s refreshing to listen to. Danny does a lot of stream of consciousness vocal delivery that doesn’t just sound like word salad and is really energetic and thoughtful. The vocal delivery on some of these songs is what stands out along with the use of so many different instruments and styles.
  • Danny at he’s age still so creative

  • A New Sound

I feel like this is the perfect evolution of Danny Elfman's music following his years of scores and Boingo (the album), the latter of which these songs feel like spiritual successors to, and I think I enjoy this album more than Boingo anyways! It's also super nice to see the return of Insects, and with Elfman's recent youtube re-release of Running On A Treadmill, I'm more hopeful than ever for an Oingo Boingo reunion!
  • I Wanted to Love it…

I’ve been a Danny Elfman / Oingo Boingo fan for 34 years or so. I was so excited for this work, but I just can’t get behind it. There’s some genius here, and some madness, and a lot of the rather mediocre. Cruel Compensations is the best offering here IMO. But it can’t carry all the weight of this lengthy dark journey. Perhaps I’m too old now to appreciate this undertaking.
  • Elf-man is back!

Been a Boingo fan for-ever… Love that he has gone back to his “sound”. The mature raspiness of his voice adds so much. Like a fine wine Danny has only gotten better with age!

So. Big Oingo Boingo fan and Elfman solo fan. Every artist has one album that is just so bad. I tried so very hard to like the songs. I watched the videos. I have to come to the honest conclusion that this project is Elfman's Tori Amos downward spiral signal. Watch "Get him to the Greek" for a more succint and spot on evalution then mine. Sorry Danny but this aint even close to good.
  • Yeah well

it’s weird strange bizarre just out loud when you know can’t calm down because you’re ears are having a good time and you know you like it that way. And there’s nobody making music like this. Elfman is just running around inside of your head.
