  • Wonderfully fun album!

I was not a fan of Strangers to Ourselves. So, I put off buying this album. Fortunately, as it turned out, Golden Casket is really good! I wouldn't say it's as good as their old stuff like Lonesome and Crowded West, but it's definitely a very good album. It's also a fun and more positive side of Modest Mouse, which I find refreshing. You can listen to the album all the way through and enjoy every song. There really isn't a bad track here. Definitely worth buying!
  • Gotta give it a fair listen

I wasn’t sure about the album first. I enjoyed the first two singles (We Are Between and Leave a Light On), but wasnt crazy about the third (The Sun Hasn’t Left). When the full album released, I was not immediately taken, and after two listens, I shrugged and returned to the older stuff (I went Back to the Middle, if you will). However, I found myself humming an unidentifiable tune for about a month, and it was driving me nuts. One night it hit me- it was the ending of Wooden Soldiers. I went back and listen to the album- I mean REALLY listened- and I almost immediately saw something I missed before. Like most Modest Mouse songs, a deeper and more complex meaning hides behind lyrics that could easily be missed by a casual listen. I soon found myself obsessed with the album, listening on loop. I especially love Wooden Soldiers and We’re Lucky. This album was well worth the six year wait, and nothing to turn your nose up at. It’s beautiful, deep, and an excellent next step for Modest Mouse. Give it a fair listen. You won’t be sorry you did.

This album gets alot better the more you listen to it. Very different from older MM albums though. Favorite song is lace your shoes.

MM is one of my favs of all time! This album is way different but a very welcomed change. It’s great listen from beginning to end! Mirroring what was said in a review. Would love some of that classic MM guitar we have come to love about them. His lyrics are stil some of the best in the biz!
  • Another beautifully refreshing trip!

Clever lyrics with simply complex layers of instrumental bliss. Same comfortable old pocketknife with a shiny new edge. Love that Modest Mouse continues on their journey in whatever direction the wind takes them with the door always opened to all.

This is different from their old stuff but still just as good. I’ve been a MM fan for years now and to see them still making music is extraordinary. They never disappoint and I appreciate their creativity; you never know what to expect musically when you listen to them. You just know whatever it is, it’s going to be fire 🔥 thanks fellas

Overall this is a very different modest mouse album. However, I still hear traces of their previous albums such as Sad Sappy Sucker and We Were Dead. I think most people will be dissapointed in the lack of Guitar on this album and I would agree. But this album is a real treat to listen to with headphones. There is so much going on here that it almost melts your brain. This is great album to put on and zone out to. Top tracks for me back to the middle- sounds most like the modest mouse I fell in love with. Killer guitar and its a great choice to end the album with. We are Between- Fun track. sounds like it was from We were dead before the ship sank. The Sun Hasent Left- This is my favorite off the album. Im hoping I hear them play it Live in Copperstown!
