  • Still the best

This record is the very best single-disc overview of the ORIGINAL Byrds lineup. Others here have called for songs like "Ballad of Easy Rider" and "Chestnut Mare" but those are all of a later era when McGuinn was the only surviving original member. THIS is the original lineup and the sound of the first great American band to answer the British Invasion. The Byrds made their mark not only on the mid 1960s, but their influences are still heard today in bands like REM, Gin Blossoms, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.... and just about every jangle-infested indie band at some point. Every track here is strong and its a good thing that Columbia rounded out the CD release with 4 tracks not found on the original LP. The added songs not only help underscore Gene Clark's much-overlooked contribution to the band's early work, but pushes through to Chris Hillman's step-up to being more of a front man. I bought this album in 1968 and it immediately became essential to me. Still in my top 10.
  • Sounds like Beatles (that’s a good thing)

If you like the Beatles you’ll like the byres. if you ask me even their voices have an uncanny resemblance of the Beatles.

I have been a fan of the sixties music for over 25 years, and for some reason overlooked the music of the Byrds as just background music. Well, I was wrong. Very wrong. I decided to pick this album up, and I am just starting to realize not only does the byrds music define the sixties generation, but it is as relevant today in these curent turbulent times as it was in those turbulent times. Pick up this album. You will never grow tired of it, and you just might find some inspiration...
  • Byrds' Best!

WOW! This brings back great memories. This was my favorite 8-track for cruising Little Rock in a black T-bird convertible in the 60's. Ran across it by accident here in iTunes--had to have it--like reconnecting with a friend.

  • Thanks to Miles Davis...

Columbia records signed the Byrds on the recommendation of Miles Davis which seems unlikely, but, remember, this was the 1960's and stuff like this happened in those days. I always thought of the Byrds as America's "answer" to the Beatles, and it turns out that they were the only American group that John, Paul, George and Ringo had regular contact. This is essential music, so get it now. By The Artist Formely Known as CoolFreeHardBop

I heard this song on Cold Case, the TV Show, and had to purchase it as it brought back memories of my era, the 60's. I love the song.
  • Absolutely Necessary.

This is the album, on sale for $5.00 at a local record store, that got me into the Byrds. Now I own every one of their albums. The Byrds were absoulutely timeless and have influenced so many. It's such a shame that they are overlooked. I don't know how many times I have listened to every one of these songs over and over. But don't overlook some of The Byrds' later albums with Gram Parsons - they have a country-rock atmosphere that is absolutely wonderful and made me appreciate country music, which I'm not a huge fan of.
  • One of their best CDs

The Byrds have always been my favorite band. In this cd, I think their best songs are Eight Miles High, 5D (Fifth Dimension), and Have You Seen Her Face. Unfortunately I think their best album/cd was Fifth Dimension which i tunes currently doesnt have. Fifth Dimension was their third album and they created the most psychedelic rock in this album. I guarentee you will like the Byrds the best when they were in their rock era of Fifth Dimension album all the way back in 1966.
