It took me a few listens from start to finish to comprehend the depth of this album, but man, once it sunk in, it blew my mind. Finite = Alright. By the way, anyone know where I can get a Dave action figure?

This album is a must-have for fans of David Byrne or the Talking Heads, and I'd also reccomend it for anyone who likes creative music. The album is probably one of Byrne's most creative and consistent albums since he left the Talking Heads. It starts with a strange, wonderful electronic track called "fuzzy freaky." The brilliant "Miss America" follows the oddness of "fuzzy freaky." Musically, the album has many subtle electronic touches, along with bits of world music that Byrne loves messing around with (the world music element is especially noticeable in the latin "miss america," the middle eastern "dance on vaseline," and the vaguely french-sounding closing track). But what really makes this album stand out is the poetry. Byrne's lyrics are kind of weird at their worst moments, and incredible at their best. Here's just one example of some of the lyrical awesomeness to be found in Feelings: "If love is alive, why can't I touch it? Does it feel like jell-o or a fire? I can tell by the taste it was not poison, but it sure did mess up my insides!" Many of the lyrics explore love, human emotions, and modern society. The lyrics reach an incredible climax with the closing track, "They are in love," which includes a final "twist" at the end that must be heard to be believed.
  • EASILY ONE OF BYRNE'S MOST ORIGINAL ALBUMS......

The crappiest, most uniformed itunes review I have ever read- where did you guys find this hack. DB went in a totally different direction with Morcheeba producing. And I hate to break it to the reviewer- none of the songs are drum & bass! Amnesia- excellent. You don't know me - lyrics followed me around for days! "Life rafts bobbin' at the bottom of the pier, wood burns faster if its soaked in gasoline".
  • A Wonderful blend of sounds.

This is my second favorite record by David, Looking Into the Eyeball being first. This album contains several hits. The album starts off with Fuzzy Freaky a nice tune that big Byrne fans will like but mostly will bore the average music listener. Then comes Miss America that is a beautiful blend of modern rock and Latin with awesome lyrics to begin. A Soft Seduction comes next, a tune I love but some might skip. Dance on Vaseline another hit on the album creates a funky frightened atmosphere. The Gates of Paradise is terrific electro-punk song with a wonderful chorus. Amnesia would be a skip for most casual listeners; only hardcore Byrne fans would really like it. Another tune just like the previous You Don't Know Me is a tune only hardcore Byrne fans would really like. Daddy Go Down is a beautiful mix of Cajun and Indian drones. Easily could be some listeners favorites, it's on my okay list. Finite=Alright is a lovely tune that is strong in strong in string arrangement topped with David's lovely voice. Wicked Little Doll is what happens when members from Devo and David Byrne get down. This beautifully twisted tune has the horror of Devo's mechanical rhythm structure and David's weirdness. Burnt By the Sun is an awesome funk string arrangement. The chorus seems to disrupt the flow though. The Civil Wars is a good song with all right verses but the chorus is really where it is. The way it was written and produced is amazing. The finale track, They Are In Love is mostly unmemorable if you are not an avid Byrne fan. To us that love him it's good. The irony in the lyrics at the end it good. This cd has about 4 to 5 hits to the average music listener, which is what I'm basing my rating off. 4 stars. Buy it. Now.

What's with the bummy review of this album? This is one of the best albums of the 90's hands down. A fantastic journey that explores a range of human emotions from that familiar but odd perspective that is David Byrne. Genius!!

Hear clearly- David Byrne continues to subvert expectations in this album. Listen - as he writes - with a fresh ear...and you will be rewarded. "Gates of Paradise", "Soft Seduction" are brilliant.

Chad gave a great review to the latest "Nickleback" album. Enough said.
  • My favorite David Byrne work since My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts.

I think the negative press this album received was tainted with rock and roll expectations. This album is gorgeous (as is his undersold previous release DavidByrne) and contains songwriting that echoes older and darker Talking Heads songs like Listening Wind or Born Under Punches. At times the genre bending doesn't seem to have aged well by 2006 standards (the Civil Wars' grunge segments are a little painful), but vast majority of the sonic play works with Byrne's songwriting style. This is one of the best records of the 90's without a doubt.
  • One of the greats
