  • Rich Lyrics Full of Truth from the Word

This album is WONDERFUL. I feel that Christian music today has lost the weight of the Gospel and has become very "experiential" and "romantic." Sometimes I can't tell if the artist is singing about their Savior or their significant other. This is a sad situation. But that is not the case for this album! Sandra McCracken and Derek Webb do a tasteful work of paring unquestionable truth in the Scriptures with undoubtable sweet melodies and harmonies. Thank you, guys! Rock of Ages and Thy Mercy, My God are my top two so far! This album is great.

I feel inclined to write a couple correlations that come to mind about this album's cover and the Cd's content, so I will. Firstly, the point of view captures the immensity and complexity of an Intrcate Designer. It's like looking up at a mythological skycraper. This complexity and vastness resounds as the first two songs pose in their titles and subsequent refrains, Mercy and Grace. Secondly, the structure (whatever it may be) is devoid of color. Sandra McCracken has taken a step back from the production of her previous album and utliized acoustic accompaniament in its place. She even excercises gritty tones in her voice as if it were the charcoal of her black and white sketch. Overall this is a keeper. I have been listening to it for the last two years and, like a good friend you can always turn to it for some good conversation.

After having lived with this record for a couple of years, I can say that it is one of my favorites. I don't even generally like worship records, but this one is outstanding in terms of the quality of the lyrics and the performances. Many of the songs are rewrites of old hymn texts, and the arrangements are simple but effective. Oh, and the triangle part on "The Love of Christ Is Rich and Free" totally rocks (I'm serious).

An incredible acoustic set. One song after another is laced with Sandra's outstanding vocals and guitar work. Its a great CD of relaxing worship music. I highly recommend it!

I saw Sandra McCraken at a Derek Webb concert and was blown away. Her lyrics are like her voice: subtle yet piercing, flowing yet powerful. Abiding City and Chattanooga are two of the MANY amazing songs.
