  • Pop Music Without Compromise

John brings his music visions to life without compromising the qualities of artistry. This is a great stripped render of his early work, devoid of the common over-cooked production enhancing - testimony to the level of talent and commitment to artistic values he brings to music.

This is essential for any Mayer fan. This is before he was famous and known for his celebrity dating. This is pure.
  • Very poppy but still some great songs

I'm a major fan of Johns and there are some Great songs on here but there's a lot of over done, poppy songs too. Back to you 3.5/5 stars. The song writing isn't very mature. The lyrics are relatable but not mature and the chord progressions aren't really anything special. No Such Thing 3.5/5 This song is again a song anyone could head bob to in the car. He did a good job capturing the feeling of the lyrics in the music but its not his best work by far. My Stupid Mouth. 2.5/5 Once again not very mature writing for John but relatable. It's okay. Neon 4.5/5 This song is great! He tunes it to drop C. It's unique and kind of funky. I love it... This song has gone on to be an acoustic song and I must say I like it better acoustic.(listen to Where the Light Is version) Acoustic, I give it a 5/5. The chord progressions are beautiful. Well written! Victoria 4.5/5 Another great one! It really captures emotion. I like his music more pulled back. I hear a lot of his 90s influences in this song. I hear Counting Crows and Stone Temple Pilots in it a lot! Great song! Love Soon 3/5 Once again too poppy... This song okay it doesn't hold up to the rest of his music though. Comfortable. 4/5 This song is good. It's a pretty cool tune. Quiet 5/5 In my opinion the best song on this album! It's pulled back just him and his guitar no harmonies no double track nothing. It's absolutely beautiful! The chord progressions are not at all what the ear expects but they're so perfect! This is probably the most mature writing on this album it sounds like it belongs on Heavier Things. Overall I give this album a 4 because i have to take into consideration that it is early in his career and he has matured musically... There are some great songs on here and some not so great songs but its the beginning of his career, what do you expect? He's a great musician and singer and you can't take that away from him! This is all my opinion though I don't really like his poppy stuff, you may! He's still great!

This album in my opinion was John Mayers best album. In this album he showed off his talent with the guitar which I feel most of his other albums lack. Also this album contains comfortable and love soon which are his best songs for their beautiful lyrics and how they are some of the most enjoyable songs to play on the guitar.

"My Stupid Mouth" reminds me of all the spontaneous things I said in my life, that were truthful, and that sent everyone rushing to help me save face, so that I could still be a part of the crowd. Fitting in really doesnt matter it seems. Neither does saving face. Someone has to work out insecurities and turn this process in reverse. "Comfortable" reminds me of the tough choices that every person has to make - should I go the "wrong" way or the "right" way... what are my other options? "Quiet" made me realize that in order to walk out into the world, you have to work from within, and let things settle and grow around you. Things just work out in a way that you don't expect them to. Every song on the album is an ode to women, and a man trying to work out why he still ends up with a broken heart, when he is the one who sees the best in them, in a way that the rest of society would rather hide away, and pretend didnt exist. The only man without a superiority complex out there... takes the fall. Every girl was "Neon" and "Victoria" at some point in her life, and got shot down. I'm grateful someone saw it and captured it in music, so that we never forget who we are.

Comfortable is my all time favorite John Mayer song. I used to go to John Mayer concerts at Frat party's at Georgia Tech. Miss those days.

There is not one song on this CD that I do not like. "Comfortable" is my favorite but they're all good. (By the way..."Comfortable" is the saddest song I have ever heard and has the potential to make me cry.) This CD is amazing. Five plus stars. You should buy this RIGHT NOW. Every single song. I promise, you will love it.
