Soulfly's self-titled album and Primitive were both fantastic albums, as are all of their albums, and 3 is no exception. Soulfly's signature sound of their older material shows up here, so fans won't be disappointed. The guest artists are a little limited this time around, but the one guest that makes the album is Cristian Machado, vocalist for fellow metal band Ill Nino (yet another one of my favorite bands). The song is pretty much Ill Nino with Max, and it is the most standout song on the album, and one of the most standout songs throughout Soulfly's entire discography. Metal fans in general may find this album to be a little run-of-the-mill, but if you like the band's sound, go for it.

I think now its a little more obvious that Max Calavera clearly hasn't sold out, since he's reunited with his brother Igor Calvera. Soulfly's 3 is a solid album; heavy, melodic, anti - government, and of course all those little bits of brazilian influences scattered throughout the tracks of Calvera's bands' music. 3 is a very well - rounded album with just the right number of tracks, spanning in all directions like a spider's web, touching on every good aspect of Calvera's songwriting. Something people have to realize is; when a member leaves a group to join another one and its sounds noticably different than the previous sound, it doesnt necessarliy mean they've sold out it just means they want to experiment with a new sound that they couldn't with the other band. Although, in Calvera's case it was different regarding the unknown cause and suffering from his dear stepson's death. Also to the person that thought that "Tree of Pain" was stolen from what they wrote theyre blog, I highly doubt, that the famous Max Calvera with decades of songwriting would steal a quote from YOUR blog.

Before I even heard this song I wrote those words in a novel I blogged in 2005. That's what I call ironic!

THis CD really expersses how they feel on a lot of topics including political views that you will not often heard expressed... One nation is by far one of my favorite songs, and it will stay that way for a very log time... the maturity of this band is surprising!!!!!
  • once again, great album!!! 5 stars
