  • Coming of Age Album for the beautiful Quin twins

This is absolutely one of the best and cutest albums Tegan and Sara albums you can possibly get. "Remember when we were a folk band?" Tegan asked this question to an in-store audience at amoeba music Berkley. This was the period when they were a folk rock band. Just Tegan, Sara, and their guitars with the accompaniment of bass and drums. Songs cannot get more traditional as these. If "The Con" was my favorite T&S album, "If It Was You" has to be my second favorite. Classics like "Living Room", "Monday Monday Monday", and "I Hear Noises" make the albums so much fun to listen to. Don't forget the songs that touch the heart was well like "And Darling", "Don't Confess", and "Not Tonight." In my opinion the most underrated songs on this album are "Want to be Bad" written by Sara and "You Went Away" written by Tegan. And if you like hearing the Quin twins YELL!!!!, Time Running would be something for you.
  • The last "pure" T&S album

If you ever wondered what T&S sounded like in there purest form, this album is it. Before the "So Jealous" era, when the keyboards and effects started to become more prevailent in there music, "If It Was You" offers T&S in there last rawest album before becoming a more produced / polished sound and band. You can feel the charm and urgency through this entire record, songs like "Living Room" make you feel like Tegan is right there in your room singing, and you can practically hears the quivles and cracks in sara voice in Songs like "Not Tonight & Terrible Storm". While alot of people drool over The Con and Sainthood, IMO "If It Was You" is the Quin Twins at there purest and unadultered state. Long live this album.

I like this album for its focus more on alternative and folky music. Tegan and Saras voices blend well together and stand alone together really well. My favorites are "Monday Monday Monday" for its catchy tune. I also hate Mondays. (Which has nothing to do with the song). It's great. "Living Room" is another. The guitar begining is great and you can still hear it throughout the song. The chorus with both Tegan & Sara is catchy. It also has good lyrics. "Don't confess (This Thing that breaks my heart)," is a great song for anyone who has ever had a breakup or in general sad. "Send a little love my way" is my favorite lyric. It's a great song. In conclusion, this album is piercingly poignant, great lyrics, and sound combine to make this another great album. 10/10.
  • An Essential Piece of Your T&S Collection

I have just recently purchased this album. It's my third T&S album. Like other reviewers, I seem to be moving backwards through their work, having first acquired "The Con", then "So Jealous". Since I love those so much, I was at first reluctant to check out their earlier work, afraid that I would be disappointed. But I'm SO not! This album, while not the masterpiece that is "The Con", is at least as good as "So Jealous". I rate 6 of the 12 tracks at 5 stars ("Time Running", "You Went Away", "Monday Monday Monday", "Not Tonight", "I Hear Noises", and "Living Room"). If you're an old fan looking to expand your T&S collection, definitely buy this album. If you've never heard T&S before, I'd say start with "The Con", then come back and buy this one!

...I would defintely buy this album, especially if you are serious T&S fans! Their voices are incredibly unique and the blend of guitar and the two of them singing is awesome. It is an older less perfected album of theirs and you can see they have grown. I love again on this album how a song like And Darling will be so seemingly sweet and then Time Running channels Joan Jett then play You Went Away and that comes with a different sound and so on... I say If you already own The Con I would buy this album, put them together on a playlist, let the songs play on shuffle and then listen to them anywhere and everywhere (but thats just what I do). There are many songs off their other albums that are great too, So Jealous is also a good buy. I dont find a lot of artists where I enjoy almost every song they have written, and tegan and sara are that way for me. And if you dont have Walking with a Ghost...you should :)
  • Tegan and Sara are incredibly talented.

I bought this entire album with the confidence that Tegan and Sara would pull through for me. And they DID! This album is utterly fantastic and every song has amazing lyrics and amazing vocals. These girls are extremely talented. Way to go girls! Here are my reviews on the songs: 1) Time Running- This song is filled with lyrics that you can recite outside of the song. It paints a clear picture of time and their perception of it. [7pts] 2) You Went Away- This song is very straightforward. Its about breakups. Great song for dealing with breakups. [7pts] 3) Monday Monday Monday- One of my personal favorites. It's a very complete song. Great lyrics, great vocals, great instrumentals. If you only want to buy a couple songs from this CD, I suggest this be one of them. [10pts] 4) City Girl- This song seems like an apology from Tegan and Sara to someone. Its painting a picture of what they did and what they wish they hadn't done. Maybe if I was the person they were apoligizing to then I would like it more, but this is not one of my favorites. [5pts] 5) Not Tonight- Theres something about this song that has me enjoying it. I can't find out what it is though. Someone who doesn't really listen to the music would not like this, but if you really listen, then you would like it [7pts] 6) Underwater- Pretty Good song. [6pts] 7) I Hear Noises- Very good. I like this song a lot. Good job Tegan and Sara [8pts] 8) Living Room- My favorite song on this album. Definetly get this one. Very good imagery. Very very good. This is also probably one you have heard before if you browse music. [10pts] 9) Terrible Storm- Okay song. Just okay. [6pts] 10) And Darling- Another one of my favorites. I'm sure that everyone has felt like this at one time or another. [8pts] 11) Want to Be Bad- Theres something about this song that I can't put to words. You'll have to see for yourself [6.5pts] 12) Don't Confess- You'll like this one if you listen for lyrics. If you like a balance of it all, then you might find it a little boring. However, the lyrics are great. [7pts]

LOVE this album... classic Tegan and Sara. "Living Room" is a fan favorite and they always end their fantastic live show with it. Other favorites are "Monday Monday Monday", "Not Tonight", "Don't Confess", and "Time Running". This album is different from their more recent albums (The Con and So Jealous), but still maintains that catchiness that all of their songs possess. It's nice to hear how much they've grown as musicians in just 4 years (This was originally released in 2003).
