  • Quite Different, but Quite Good

I happen to like this album, thank you very much. This has a NWOBHM feel (some parts remind me of motorhead.) Overall it's a solid album, good lyrics, good riffs. Yes, it's a departure from Darkthrone's earlier style, but it's still good. My personal favorite is the title track.

but only when its done right, I don't have a problem with them changing styles, but it just doesn't sound good.
  • Not for the typical black metal fan.

This album, much like "the cult is alive," has a deep crust punk/thrash/motorhead influence to it. Those who claim it not to be as good as "transylvanian hunger" need to realize that this is 9 albums later than the latter. You have to expect a band to change or progress from the early 90's to the late 00's. While this may not be the direction metallers wish the band to go, it is a solid album regardless. It has a huge Amebix and Motorhead influence, and it is great to see such a classic black metal band pushing the limits and doing their own thing regardless of what others think. My favorite Darkthrone release is still "under a funeral moon," but this album is killer..
  • NWOBHM, not a punk/black.

is a great album, is not a tradditional black metal, is a fussion between early black metal and thrash, making a very different sound, is not what you expect from darkthrone, but still a great album, if you like thrash metal as motorhead, you have to buy this.

This album is by far the worst thing Darkthrone has ever put out. Knowing that these are the same people that put out the classics like Transilvanian Hunger, A Blaze In The Northern Sky, and Under A Funeral Moon makes me sick. This album is a Crust Punk album with Black Metal production and vocals. If your a new fan of Black Metal, dont get this album, get some early Darkthrone, Mayhem, or early Ulver to find out what BM is truly about

This album shows the return of Darkthrone from Death to black and back to death-like metal. It's like Darkthrone mixed with Motorhead. A quality album

This is very different from Transilvanian Hunger and A Blaze In The Northern Sky. This is pretty much a Punk/Black Metal album, mostly on the punk side. This cant ever reach the greatness of Transilvanian Hunger, A Blaze In The Northern Sky, or Under A Funeral Moon. I dont know if i like this too much, it might have to grow on me. I do like Canadian Metal though, the guitar solo is pretty good on that. If you are new to Darkthrone check out their earlier albums and then go for the recent ones and if you still like them (which i really dont) more power to you.

Darkthrone tried out more of a punk-ish sound on this album. Canadian metal is an awesome song but honestley i don't like the album very much but i'm a big darkthrone fan anyways so i'll help out by giving it 5 stars.

this latest release from darkthrone is radically different from their earlier releases. i would recommend this to any black metal fan, but for true darkthrone, Transilvanian Hunger is the way to go.
