I'm so happy to find the Barry Manilow/Exposé collaboration on the cover of Bing Crosby/the Andrews Sisters version of Jingle Bells. I really dug Exposé in the early 90's and will always be a Manilow fan. It's a great version of a classic standard.

Perfect to listen to this time of year. Also, read his autobiography: his father was Irish Catholic.
  • A Barry Manilow Christmas!

Originally released in 1990, this holiday effort is solid throughout and features excellent collaborations with Expose and K.T. Oslin. Barry's very first and best written original Christmas song, Because It's Christmas is the best cut on here and is becoming a holiday standard. As one might expect, the arrangements and production on this album are superb. Barry is the consumate musician and professional, which is why he can create a thoroughly authentic holiday album despite being Jewish.

White Christmas - the best cut on the record - here Manilow's vocal is present, but it shares that presence with gorgeous nylon guitar. Simple, right, and worth every 99 pennies.

We used to listen to Barry all the time in the car with my mother. Swing Street and this Christmas album Because it's Christmas are his best albums. Now that I'm older I still love them! Definitely staples on my ipod :-P Buy it you won't regret it at all!

This is Barry's first Christmas album and the concept is a non-stop listening experience. The whole album is crossfaded so listening to the tracks seperately will be abrupt. Barry chose a jazz theme not unlike his 2 a.m. Paradise Cafe effort. "Jingle Bells" a duet with the defunct girl group Expose is a note for note recreation of the Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters recording. The title track "Because It's Christmas" would be re-recorded with Rosie O'Donnell for her Christmas album, the medleys, tracks 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, feature non-secular instrumental intros with Barry picking up the vocal for the second song. "When The Meadow Was Bloomin'" features lyric written by Johnny Mercer, this song would be revisited on the album produced by Barry for Nancy Wilson featuring almost the whole body of work of the Manilow/Mercer collaboration. "Baby It's Cold Outside" is a playful duet with country singer KT Oslin, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" features Barry accapella and multi-tracked. The album closes with an abbreivated version of the single "It's Just Another New Year's Eve." Overall as a continual listen because of the crossfading this is a good album but because it's sold track by track it'll be kind of annoying; too bad there isn't a custom iTunes version.
