It took me awhile to buy this album. I guess I thought it couldn't be as good as TP & the HBs. I am no critic so won't compare. I will say that I've played this album over and over again for 5 days and am loving Mudcrutch! Buy this if you like Tom Petty, even a little.

Not sure what planet I've been on but this is the first I've heard of this Tom Petty project. Like everyone, I have an affection for the Heartbreakers but they have always been so popular and because of the extensive airplay they enjoy I haven't purchased anything by them in years. This project is different and much more to my musical heart. Great playing and interaction between the group that stands many listens.

To those who didn't or don't know... Mudcrutch was the name of the old band before Tom became Tom Petty and the heartbreakers.

Petty just seems hokey and unconvinced in what he's singing. There's nothing new about this album. Everything's been done before. If you like Tom Petty's other stuff, you might like this. But for everyone else, don't bother.
  • Tom Petty is great... Mudcrutch... not so much.

If u want to hear some great music, go to Amazon and buy Tom Petty's greatest hits. Every single song on tht disc is good. On this disc tho, buy scare easy and thats it. dont waste ur money on the rest. The first two songs are the only good ones on the album. I just saw petty in concert and he is great. buy his greatest hits on amazon on at ur local bookstore. u will not be disappointed.

Tom Petty is definitely one of my favorite artists of all time, and I'm glad he reunited his first band for an album. This album is great. Any Petty fan should check it out. I especially like "Shady Grove," "Scare Easy," "Crystal River," and "Lover of the Bayou," but the whole album is worth a listen. Petty is such a versatile musician, and everything he does is amazing. The Heartbreakers, the Traveling Wilburys, now Mudcrutch...who will he form next? This is what music should be! Keep on rocking, Tom! Please get Mudcrutch back together for a bigger tour!

Cause I'm there, this album (not all of them) blew me out of the water, amazing.

This is good Tom Petty stuff. But why did they call it Mudcrutch? This is a lot like Wildflowers and the majority of his early releases. I really like Shady Grove, Scare Easy, Crystal River, and Lover of the Bayou. My favorite Petty albums are Full Moon Fever, Highway Companion, Wildflowers, Into the Great Wide Open, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Echo, Darn the Torpedoes. Least favorite: Last DJ, Southern Accents, Long after Dark, Let Me Up, Hard Promises, You’re Gonna Get it.
  • "Crystal River" highlight of the wonderful cd

I never really took Tom Petty very seriously until I heard "It's Good To Be King" a few years back. That song is so wonderful, that it still remains in my Top 10 Best of All Time. I was pretty much satisfied that if Tom Petty never wrote anything else great, it would be okay. Well, to my surprise, he is now attached to another awesome song! Mudcrutch's "Crystal River" is a beautifully done, wonderfully meandering song that transports me to that place that only music can bring me to. And, music lovers, don't pretend that you don't know what I'm talking about! You understand the power of a well-crafted song and what it can do to your soul. I recommend this cd and especially this particular track. Thanks for reading and enjoy the ride. :-)

Really love the rocking Tom Petty, but this is a little too relaxed or laid back for my taste. I do like Shady Grove, The Wrong Thing to Do, Lover of the Bayou and June Apple, but not too sure about the rest. Like others' versions of Six Days on the Road better.
