The 12" Collection

Smooth. Relaxing. Reminds me of when I used to listen to music on a quadraphonic system in the 1970s.

I got only the "Night to Remember" and "I Can Make You Feel Good" 12" editions from this LP. "Night to Remember" is a better quality sound that the edition that is on "Greatest Hits (Right Stuff)" and the remix of "...Feel Good" has the modernized, electrofunkified difference that makes it substantially closer to electrofunk (i.e. 1983, "Freakazoid" - Midnight Star) than the original single which is quite similar to 80's not-quite-yet-electrofunk (i.e. 1981, "I've Been Watching You" - Midnight Star).

While this is a nice collection of Shalamar's dance hits with a ballad thrown in for good measure, I am a bit put off that they are saying this is a 12" collection. Tracks 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, and 13 are all ALBUM VERSIONS. I had mose of these LPs as a kid and the lengths are the same. Now Right In The Socket is a 12" remix but it replaced the original on later releases of the Big Fun album. My mother still has an earlier release with the original version but it has the 12" remix for Second Time Around on it as well so that release must be a second edition, or the original version of 'Second' was only on a 45. This is a great collection but the low rating is for the misleading title. I really would have loved to see the European remix for A Night To Remember, but at least you can find the M&M remix on the Friends album here on iTunes.

This CD is a fantastic purchase for collectors or people in general that enjoy 70/80's music! It is a testament to how music (all genres!!!) were done at that time, with musicality and instruments. Much of the music produced then had people playing intruments and experimenting with sound. Many of these current producers might want to atleast take music theory if not rudimentary music lessons! But I digress...again this is a collectable CD as it has the 12" versions! Enjoy it 'cause I am... ;)

So very cool to see all the full length mixes available. Most CD's have the shorter versions and these are VERY good mixes. Recommended for anyone into this group in the late 70's, early 80's. Best - Uptown Festival 8:51 which is the exact time from the oringial back in 1977. Thanks iTunes!

Don't get it twisted folks, I know alot of people don't like remixes because it takes away from the origionality from a perfectly good song. Well these versions are the same ones that can be found on Shalamar's old albums. Yes they are origional 12" versions and they are so good that a remix would do no justice in this case. The greatest hits are here on this collection and I recoment this album.
