  • A Mind BESIDE Itself

Not "A Mind By Itself". Also, this is a live album, the title clearly says so, I don't see the point of putting (Live) next to every songs. Besides that, Dream Theater is one of my favorite bands, and they put the best live show. This album clearly showcases their talent and energy. The improvs and small changes they make to the songs give it a unique twist. I'm sure this will not disappoint any DT fan. For starters, I recommend getting some studio albums, so that you can "get" what DT is all about. But if you go straight for this one, I'm sure you'll enjoy it too. For the price, you can't go wrong with this one.

Haven't even had the oppurtunity to listen to every song yet. I owned most of these songs prior to this purchase, but it was so worth it. 3 hours of top quality music for 10 dollars is unbeatable. 10/10, definitely buy this.

The only reason I didn't is because I already have the albums included in here, but for 10$, this is the best musical quality you can get. And I also consider the best way to snag A Change of Season without having to buy the stupid cover songs included in the album named after it. Don't get me wrong, the covers were good, but I prefer to listen to Dream Theater singing it's own music. Tangents aside, BUY THIS ALBUM IF YOU DON'T ALREADY OWN THESE SONGS.

Never bought this one when it came out, what the hell was I waiting for. Going to have to purchase the new Black Clouds and Silver linings on disc since you can't get the bonus instrumentals as a digital download.
  • Buy this album Right Now!!!

This is not only the greatest Dream Theater Live album of all time, but the greatest Live album of all time period. You get the entire Scenes from a Memory album (by far perhaps the greatest piece of music ever written), Learning to Live (cannot be found anywhere else on Itunes), a Change of Season (you have to buy an entire album just to get this one), plus plenty of other great songs for an absolute steal of a price. Here is my review song by song: Scenes from a Memory: Tracks 1-13 form together to create an absolute masterpiece. 65/65 (5 per song) Metropolis Part 1: The appropriate song to play afterwards to finish the Metropolis suite. It's great to put aside an hour and a half of your life just to listen to this and Scenes from a Memory for just one day even. 5/5 The Mirror: It may seem repetitive at first, but it is really a very good song. James does some good vocal work. 5/5 Just Let Me Breathe: Not the full song, topped off by the fact it is from my least favorite album. 3/5 Acid Rain: This is a Liquid Tension Experiment song, but once again not the full version. 4/5 Caught in a New Millenium: A fusion between Caught in a Web from the Awake album and New Millenium from Falling into Infinity. It's pretty cool, but I would prefer just both songs on their own. Another Day: The sax player on this kicks a**. 5/5 Keyboard Solo: Jordan shows you what he's made of. 5/5 A Mind Beside Itself Suite (this is the real name): Songs 21-23 from Awake take you on a magical journey. 15/15 Learning to Live: Amazing song. Nothing else can be said. A Change of Season: Unbelievible. One of the greatest songs of our lifetime, and something every DT fan must own. 5/5 # of mistakes on this recording: Maybe 2 (once on Overture 1928, and again on A Change of Season). But that is an absolute nitpick. Besides, that's impressive on any level for having played more than 3 hours straight without a break!

They mastered a perfect live metroplis pt 2 and 1 with other songs including a mind by itself suite (it's a mind Beside it self but this way it sounds creepier. And Then some special solo's and The song Acid Rain, by liquid tension experement, which is made up of most of the band and Tony Levin, but this version is only 2 minutes for some reason. Finally as a grand finally they end with One of their best songs A Change Of Seasons, and the last minute and a half of that is everybody getting up and going home, so when you get it, make sure to cut that part off. This is worth buying, you get a whole album and more for the same price.
  • This CD rocks!

I actually have the original version with the New York skyline on fire. After I heard about the WTC towers falling I decided not to open it. So I glad iTunes is offering this album at such a steal! Buy now!!

Dream Theater has released flawless studio albums, but it is in a live setting that the band is at its peak. These guys are performers in every sense of the word. The 'Scenes From a Memory' set puts this collection up there with Queensryche's 'Operation: Livecrime'. From 'One Last Time', through 'Metropolis, pt. 1', these guys end the first set perfectly. 'Acid Rain' is a wonderful nod to the LTE project. It's always wonderful to hear 'Another Day', especially with Jay Beckenstein on sax. 'Learning To Live' has always been one of my favorite DT tracks. I actually managed to get one of the original covers about 2 or 3 days after 9/11. In light of the tragic coincidence, I find it is actually a very somber reminder of what was lost that day. DT love New York, love performing, and it shows here.
