Thoughtful... Worth it.

The same smooth and gorgeous voice but with a more sophisticated musical arrangement and thoughtful (less pop) attitude. I'm on my second spin and the disk is already growing on me... If you want to spend a quiet time accompanied by her silky voice, and are not afraid to hear painful lyrics, this may be a disc for you. I am certainly enjoying it! I hope you will too... Just know what you are getting into before you push the buy button and save us from a disgruntled and poorly written review. Cheers!

Dido's most thoughtful album yet

I enjoy all of Dido's music, but this album is by far her most eloquent creation. It is musically understated and its lyrics are thought provoking, both qualities that lend it depth that cannot be grasped in a first listening. While her former works were instantly likable but became tiring more quickly, songs from "Safe Trip Home" only grow more and more dear with subsequent hearings. A wonderful album!

This album makes your heart choke. Sometimes it feels like you're grasping for air, sometimes it feels as if there is nothing else happening but the sound of the melody. You don't know if you want it to end, perhaps you do, but you can't be brought to end it yourself. It's the kind of bittersweet symphony few can come up with. Some nights I fall asleep and wake up listening to it over and over again. Each melody has grown in me so much, it's hard to pull out a favorite, but if I had to pull out a favorite out of all the albums, it would probably be this one. And that's not an easy thing to do considering Dido's albums are all life defining. I know exactly where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard them. But Maybe I'm just a huge fan. Either way, give it a try.

As the majority of writers have already found out, this album is very good compared to what is presented out there as pop music, but compared to her two previous albums there are some shortcomings. First, the melodies are fairly simple and not very creative. Second, like another writer stated, she does a lot of whispering and talking in these songs, not really singing. Third, the orchestration is minimal, thus denying the haunting, mysterious elements of No Angel and Life for Rent albums. I found that some other groups cut back on expensive orchestration and went minimalist (ELO went to synthesizers and did away with violins and cellos in the 90s). Still, the LYRICS on this album are, as many have already stated, very compelling and attract the listener. The album is excellent, though certainly the weakest of the three.

Wow. Dido. Love her, saw her in 2000 when she was on tour with Tara McLean about 3 weeks before she became a superstar. A sweet lady, we met her after the show and she was so down to earth. That's why it disappoints me to say that this album is a major letdown. The major problem: there is no melody. Sure, with Aimee Mann were kind of used to hearing a brooding, semi-airlift vocal, with muted sounds. But were not used to that with Dido. Compare any song here with "Don't Leave Home". The STH songs simply aren't as good. Songs like "Here with Me" and "White Flag" and "Thank You" are AMAZING. They're classics. Not one song from Safe Trip Home gets you from the moment you hear it, and I don't think anything is going to grow on me either.

I love this album. Dido always tops herself with every new album. This is a bit of a departure from her previous work but not too different. The lyrics are more personel & the music has a more earthier feel to it. A nice soundtrack to play when you need to relax & clear your head.

I am a little disappointed after listening to this album twice. I zoned out a couple of times and had the feeling that I had heard this song before. However, I feel a connection to the emotions that are under the surface and will continue to play this album in hopes of finding more depth than is initially apparent.
