It's a great album, but it's missing "Home by the Sea" (my favorite Genesis song). Other than that I think it's a pretty good mix of their hits.

There is definitely a place for Genesis in music history - their hits at least. And this album has all their hits. But it also has a lot of filler. It's not a good sign when 70% of a greatest hits album isn't good. Phil's vocals are not to blame at all - I love his voice. He sounds like what Sting would sound like if you could understand anything he sings outside of the choruses. They just have too many boring songs. Even their hits are mostly minor. In Too Deep, Invisible Touch, and I Can't Dance are really the only true big hits going on here with about 3 other minor hits worth keeping.

Genesis/Phil Collins...musical legends, good lyrics, great sound, talented group with a drummer who is lead vocalist? Tough to do but he pulls it off masterfully! Now this is music!
  • The Perfect Compilation

Turn it On Again is one of the best hits album of all time. It was really my intro to Genesis (This is not the Borgii writing, it is his son), and I have loved the album ever since.

in a bucket of coal. Unless you love garden variety pop played by first rate musicians. The covers of "Wardrobe" and "Carpet Crawlers" are nice to hear and the few real standouts from the Post Gabriel/Hackett era, (Land of Confusion, Tonight... and Congo), are worthy efforts but are they enough to make this allbum worth purchasing? Collins voice carries this collection but overall the songs are weak and uninspired when compared to their earlier work with the "classic" Genesis lineup of Rutherford, Banks, Hackett, Gabriel and Collins. My advice? Wait for a better collection and in the meantime go back and get reaquainted with the groups earlier work.
  • Boring commercial pop tunes

Unless you want to pay good money for the same burned-out BORING commercial pop tunes you can hear on commercial AM radio, then buy something else. Of course if you are a fan of the aforementioned, this may be for you. The only glimmer of hope here is the re-make of "Carpet Crawlers" from The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway album with Peter Gabriel. Perhaps you may want to flip for the .99 single in that case. Perhaps I'm being jaded here, but I remembered Genesis from Selling England By the Pound, Nursery Crime, etc. So the commercially driven pop that is presented here is like listening to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra playing Britney Spears greatest hits. The waste of talent for these "Color-By-Number" pop tunes is depressing. Still, Genesis proved their talents with earlier non-commercial albums, so I guess they were entitled to make a buck at some point. If we could get rid of untalented corporate dweebs who decide what will be played on the radio, then perhaps we could finally get the true best of the talent displayed by groups like Genesis and not this sugar sweetened drivel.
