I loved Contiuum and Try!, so I figured I'd try another album featuring the members of the John Mayer Trio. This album completely wastes the musical talents of Pino and Steve. In my opinion, that's probably John's fault, either intentionally (which was a poor choice musically) or unintentionally (which indicates that he's a bad songwriter). There is nothing even remotely complex about this album. Mayer was lauded as a fantastic guitarist after Try! Where is that talent on this album? I understand that this is Mayer solo album and not a JMT album, and thus is more subdued, but REALLY? This is the kind of music that puts me to sleep. Yes, there are a few good musical moments, and good lyrics from time to time; I am not doubting Mayer as a lyricist. I do have some serious doubts about his ability to write exciting, new, fresh, and innovative music, becuase there is none of that on this album, despite the fact that he employed two of the best session musicians alive. Get "Heartbreak Warfare" and "Assassins" and move on to better things. I'm glad I borrowed this album from my sister and didn't actually purchase it.

I love this album - I think it's been overlooked greatly. A comforting, contemporary look at life and love with Mayer's trademark soul.
  • Still to this day disappointed.

I am a huge fan of John, and when I first heard this album, I didn't really like it. So I've waited a while to see if it could grow on me and still to this day I don't think there is any variety in these songs. Most of them sound the same, except Crossroads, which is actually a cool rock/blues song on this album that I've grown to like, (This album is also missing the sexy blues riffs and solos that John had on Continuum). Sorry Johnny, but I'm NOT recommending this to anyone except people who like songs that are extremely poppy and don't sound to special. But John, your Paradise Valley album is Dynamite.

I've been listening to John Mayer for years now. Whether it's guy troubles or a long drive, he's the one I choose. He basically clears my mind of anything negative and brings positive thoughts. Calming and magical, his music uplifts my spirit and he will forever be my favorite artist.

I haven't bought this, but it sounds more pop-music-y than his older songs, and it's absulutely not what I expected.

John Mayer is perfect. Always will be. As long as he doesn't pull a t-swift & we all know what that means, then he'll remain perfect.

To be perfectly honest, I am rather disappointed that people keep comparing this album to Continuum. That was a phenomenal album. Hands down, no exceptions. But no two things are the same. Every artist has ast least one that is not well-received. John has yet to have that album for me. Sure there are some tracks that don't quite feel like they belong, but on a general whole, I really enjoyed this work of his art and felt he really stretched into some other platforms only previously scratched at. Perfectly Lonely hits a place too close to home and other tracks struck veins and nerves I'd long forgotten existed because no one artist (or collective group) has hit it. Being said - I have to say that he really is this generation's Bob Dylan (who is hands down my favorite artist of all time). Comparing him to such a powerful and influential singer/songwriter is a weighty argument, but Mayer's work speaks for itself. He is not afraid of his work, to try new things and test waters. Much like the beloved Dylan. I am convinced that Mayer's smooth voice and beautiful guitar can soothe my soul even if he were to do a cover of Rob Zombie's Dragula or Drowning Pool's Down With The Sickness. And he has certainly kept it coming with Born and Raised. I really cannot wait to see what the man does in his coming years.

I've never liked a whole album, not even by my favorite artist. This is my favorite though and the only album that I actually enjoy. Love John Mayer and love how relaxing his songs can be. This by far, is the best album he has ever made.
