After the baffling horrific 'Omen' (possibly Soulfly's worst to date - though I'm admittedly unwilling to sit through '3' again to verify this...), it's great to see Soufly have released another progressive thrash epic. Marc Rizzo's shredding and melodies reach new levels of precision and the addition of Kinkade on drums gives them the best drumming Soulfly has ever had. And of course Max does his usual thing... which is awesome. The mixing is also phenomenal (you REALLY need a good subwoofer for this thing!). Although the entire album pretty much slays, highlights include Gladiator (serisouly, check out the last 2 minutes), Redemption of Man by God (feat. Dez Fafara of Devildriver), the Latin-metal epic Plata O Plomo, and the blistering three vocalist speared Revengence. After a dozen listens, I still can't say that this is Soulfly's best ever (an honor I still reserve for 'Dark Ages'), but it could very well overtake 'Prophecy' at number 2. If you like metal, you really need this album!
  • It's good old school metal

Ok I don't usually do album ratings because most of them are done by pretentious little dorks that know nothing about music. With that said I was impressed enough by this album to do one. This may be Max at his best since Beneath the remains. The new line up is pretty good and does the album justice.
  • Perfect time for a lineup change.

Max always knows when there needs to be new blood in the band. Glad he kept marc on though. Marc's guitar work has become soulfly. Bottom line this is right up there with the best Soulfly
  • Cant' go wrong with this one!

After a couple not so great releases, Max is back on track. This one compares to his first two. Great album.
  • If soulfy was a death metal band this would get 4 stars….

But soulfly is not, they are a nu metal band or at least they used to be. This sounds more like a sepultara album then soulfly by far. Primitive and their first self-titled album are what they guys need to go back too, because if i wanted to listen to a death metal album, i would go listen to lamb of god or sepultara

An interesting blend of musical styles. However, if you prefer real metal try Sepultura's Beneath the Remains. Max at his prime.
  • Old School Metal!
