Simply a great album. Great songwriting, great guitar playing, and great vocals. Anders has, somehow, improved upon his last album, American Patchwork. "Mind of a Junkie" is the standout in an album full of standouts.

One of the best of 2012 (and other years too). Solid guitar, great songs and full of emotional heavyweights. This one has been on constant play for me this year - when running, long drives or back porch chilling. Highly recommended. If you like Lucinda, Warren Haynes, Neil Young, etc. -> You will definitely find this to be a great album.

This is not Anders Osborne's best work, but it is still a solid album, with some good guitar workouts. "Sen me a friend", burns with an intense blues rock tht fits in very well with the work that he did on American Patchwork. The best track on the album in my opinion is "Mind of a Junky", which has a great bluesy, Psychedelic sound. Anders really channels his Neil Young and Crazy Horse on this track. In addition to some solid guitar work there are some acoustic ballads, with "Dancing in the Wind", and "Lousianna Gold". Overall this is not Anders Osborne's strongest work, I prefer Ash Wed. Blues, and American Patchwork, but this is a good guitar album, with some well written songs.

I got this album after hearing too much local praise for the guy. I wasn't that moved, and actually, I think if you subtract the rock-and-roll cliche of a guy who got messed up on drugs and then supposedly rehabbed himself to fame, this music is entirely derivative; Anders Osborne has not an original bone in his body. Led Zeppelin, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, stuff of that age, is too obviously traced in Osborne's music, and what's more, despite all the accolades I've read about him being a guitar hero, I think his playing is not much more than stock licks.

I miss the Ash Wednesday Blues Anders. That was original stuff.

Just saw Anders in new Orleans for jazz fest and picked up this album. Blown away. It's a listening album with highs and lows, fast and slow beats, struggle and soul. Loved it - must have.

Black tar. Listened to it. Listened to one other song for about 5 seconds and downloaded the album. Some music is there right off the bat.

As a devout follower of Alligator Records, I have been anticipating the album for weeks. Now, having finally gotten to hear it, I think it has been well worth the wait. Anders Osborne brings to this album a studio brilliance in the league of Jack White (Black Tar). I also think that he is very insightful into the human heart in his songwriting, akin to Stve Earle (When Will I see You Again?; Dancing in the Wind). And clearly Anders is a soulful singer (Higher Ground). But at the end of the day the Blues is about the guitar and Anders is a guitarist. Mind of a Junkie would kill at any summer blues festival, as would Send me a Friend.
