Reviews

  • A decent album, but simply decent for the band

This album is an interesting one. For one, the band has proformed no songs from it liveand they didnt even want to make the album anyway, they just saw it as an obligation. That said, the album is decent, but following their previous album, which was one of the best they've ever made on my opinion, it was a very big let down. But it is a good album and id still reccomend it.
  • Good sophomore album, but not their best.

Sometimes I wonder what if ONE OK ROCK didn't release this album, because about five-and-a-half months later the band released their third album "Kanjou Effect," which in my opinion, completely destroyed this album... But anyways, back to the review. "Beam of Light" is a good sophomore album, but looking back on it now, it's definitely their weakest album in their discography. It showed they were on to something, but were still amidst finding their voice and shaping their signature style. Taka began singing in English on more tracks (compared to "Zeitakubyou"), Toru stopped rapping and you could tell he wanted to focus more on his guitar skills, Alex's guitar riffs became more melodic, Ryota's bass riffs stood out more (esp. on "Crazy Botch" which is by far the best track on the album), and Tomoya's drumming was getting better and better. "Beam of Light" was definitely a kind of transitional album for the band. If you're new to OOR, I don't recommend it as their first album to check out. But if you're familiar with the band, especially their more recent works, then I'd say its worth your time.
