There were some good songs here. My biggest complaint is the overall sound quality. Felt like someone turned the volume down when recording

This may or may not be relevant anymore if iTunes realizes this mistake, but originally this album had each independent song available to buy separately (except the songs over 10:00 of course). It’s a huge bummer, but I just wanted to clear that up in case the issue was still here. The common understanding in which people perceive the functionality of any machine or complicated device is that they are made of components that meticulously work together in order to tightly execute commands or actions. However, when one of their main components is missing, often times it doesn’t take long for it to run through of few cycles until it ultimately crashes into a spectacle of flying gears and springs. So naturally, having lost Mike Portnoy in Dream Theater’s line-up turned into a disparate scramble to replace the void that did more for the band than simply play drums. Now Mike Mangini, who could symbolizes the album’s unicyclist, was to make an impressive debut with the rest of the group and break past the impenetrable expectations of fans or else he would fall without people offering so much as a second glance. This was make or break time for Dream Theater. And to the hopes of many, they made it. If the song’s opening track “On The Backs Of Angels” wasn’t clear enough, a simple line-up change was not going to destroy the empire that Dream Theater has made. Though “Systematic Chaos” and “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” were indeed pleasant, they had a sort of soul that felt out of place with other past albums. What “A Dramatic Turn Of Events” does instead is bring back the aura of past albums we haven’t seen since 2005 and refines it. Granted, the band has an amorphous sound and style, but no more is there this sense of things being out of place. There is elegance at work here that has been missing for a long time. The instruments are crisp and harmonious and it’s everything fans have been waiting for. We can proudly say that we have yet another album in the 21st century that we can call a classic Dream Theater album. We love you Portnoy and we wish you a great deal of success in your future projects. As for Mangini, we welcome you with open arms.
