I can't say I follow the Cafe del Mar name as close as some, but I do know that Jose Padilla started compiling the firsts of these mixes way back when, and that those were always considered the gold standard. So purchasing this with no prior reviews, I was a little nervous that he wasn't in charge here (and hasn't been for many of the Cafe del Mar albums these songs are featured on). But the lure of 39 Cafe del Mar certified songs for $12 was too much to resist so I took the plunge.
I am happy to report that Toni Simonen has put together a very fine compilation here. A lot of these songs hit that perfect chill out vibe and avoid the pitfalls associated with this genre (songs with a little too much chill and not enough substance). So to keep it short and sweet... this album is definitely worth buying if you are a fan of Cafe del Mar series. And at $12, the price alone takes this album up from 4 stars to 5 stars.
