Worth the cost just to hear Derek and Sonny trade unique slide guitar licks on Congo Square.

This was an interesting concert album. Lots of luminaries from the past and present. It was truly a fitting celebration of the medium. Lots of my favorite artists were involved in this concert, so I decided it would be worth checking out. The album's best tracks were mostly songs featuring those favorite artists that i already liked going in. The Citizen Cope song rocked, as did songs featuring Gary Clark, Jr. and John Mayer. The Clapton songs were also pretty good. I really liked the version of Tears in Heaven. The album overall had a pretty raw and occasionally swampy vibe, which i loved. Obviously there was great guitar work throughout, but it was occasionally boring and dragged. Though I like long concert jams, there were just too many 6+ minute songs to hold my interest for this many tracks. The live feel worked for and enhanced many songs, but kind've weakened some others - as is to be expected with so many artists performing live. The vocals were also hit and miss. So I would recommend this album to someone who is a fan of the specific artists. It would be a great pick and choose album, but I-tunes has shown that they are aware of that by making all the songs "album only." They think that'll make them more money by making you buy the throwaways to get the artists you want.
