I saw her in Napa, Ca singing this album a couple years back...she blew me away with her vocals and presence. This album is lovely.

It is wonderful to hear songs about something. Sometimes profound. Sometimes centering around a small complaint...everything has the feel of importance because Lucinda Williams has made me believe it is all true. The true is rare and painful and beautiful.

Without writing the comprehensive review this album deserves, I would summarize by saying that there is not a weak link track to be found on this gorgeously produced album. That's saying a lot for a 20 track recording. From start to finish, Compassion to Magnolia, this album is lush and broad in depth and scope. Lucinda's soul and wisdom seeps through, the band is flawless. I'm just so impressed. There are few albums, for me at least, that on first listen, you just get the sense that they are going to become old friends of yours, replayed hundreds of times throughout the years… and this is one of those albums. Can't say enough good about it. Kudos and Bravo to Lucinda and each person involved in this production.

This is a fantastic album and I have to say that I am new to her but wish that I had known all these years. We saw her recently at the Melody Tent in Hyannis and it was an unbelievable show. There are many stellar tracks here but my favorite is Foolishness. Feels like a Crazy Horse tune, it really rocks.

Ms. Williams has made a temendous evolution with her music with this album. Sure we all have our favorities but this album has seemed to perfect her style into a truly great genre. The band she has put together works seamlessly with each other and with her. The riffs blend smoothly with her bluesy voice. Her lyrics blend into the melody so smoothly like a single malt scotch. This album is a must have as is the Stones Exile. I am sorry my review doesn't due the music justice. Have all the albums and love them but this is the pinnacle a must have.

Not such a big fan of the first song but pretty much the rest of the album is exceptional. If you like beuatifully crafted albums with exceptional guitar work, with a bit of a blues feel, WOW. Enjoy this work of art.

I have not followed LW until now, but... all of these songs are awesome. Great album LW! I am now, officially, a fan.

I know comparisons are odious, yet how do you explain art without comparing it to what has gone before? In this case, the most apt comparison to make is that this album is Lucinda’s “Exile On Main Street,” a double album whose brilliance becomes clearer the more you listen to it. The Stones reference is also apt; “Protection” or “Foolishness” could easily be classic Stones songs. Just imagine Mick singing lead and you’d say, wow, this is the best thing they’ve done since, well, Exile. Even the slow numbers like could be Sticky Fingers outtakes: “One More Day” and the brilliant cover of J.J. Cale’s “Magnolia” are every bit as good as “Wild Horses.” The difference is that Lucinda, at 61, is making the best music of her already great career, not playing golden oldies. Lyrically, she hits new highs, which is saying a lot, while her whiskey-soaked voice is better than ever. It would be easy to pick out the best songs, because they’re ALL good. In fact, this has got to be the best rock and roll album of the past year. I’ve had it on repeat for a week now and haven’t begun to tire of it. If you’re a Lucinda fan, you’ll be in heaven. If you’re not, you will be after hearing this. It’s deep, dark and spooky, just like the best music always is.

Lucinda’s songs do not get old, they get more comfortable, like your favorite flannel shirt. I am admittedly a big fan of hers, but this is, in my opinion, a great album.
  • She is the best. Period.

How is it that she's not a bigger star. But then again, doubtful I'd get to see her from the 6th row if she was, like I did last night at Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale - a venue with less than 2000 seats. But she's incredible - as is this Great Album!!
