Somebody game me this on cd for a xmas. Getting a new stero, I discover tape 5 was missing, guessing in got left in old cd players. Does anybody know how I can get the missing cd. I don"t want to download the songs from ITune because of the cost and want to have the cd to put with others in the book that came with it.

I'm a broke college student who fell in love with this collection. One day it was removed from Apple Music and it cost $70 to buy. Please put back on Apple Music so I can listen again.
  • Cosmic American Music

Sprawling literature exists regarding these legendary songs cut in the summer and fall of ’67 in Woodstock and neighboring West Saugerties, NY. Collectively, these tunes that spawned such folklore and fascination hold up to the hype. Every song and every take (about 2/3rds of which are originals) are treasures to behold. Even the “throw-aways” and mere song sketches are of interest here—the earthy, organic, Americana ethos of the combined songs creates something bigger than the music itself, making it infectious and quintessential listening. Most of the music was recorded (and sometimes re-recorded) on 7” reel-to-reels in a basement not acoustically suited for such endeavors, allowing the tracks to adopt a certain natural lo-fi quality that some bands strive to emulate in present-day digital studios! But Bob Dylan and The band didn’t consciously set out to launch a new sonic or genre. Rather, they gathered to make music for the sheer love and fun of it, never intending the takes to be officially released. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, the environment allowed them the freedom and spontaneity to transcend beyond the strain of trying to create something good, and in the process haphazardly made something great. The unpretentious and ego-free environment invited a collective unity of very talented and inspired musicians to eclipse the sum of their parts to create what one could call “cosmic American music.”

Go listen to your Azlea, Kanye, or whatever crap you think is music. I shouldn't even argue with your opinion because you obviously don't have the intelligence to understand his impact on music.

How can you call this music. Somebody please put this dog out of its misery. If I had to listen to this whole album, I would jump off bridge. Dylan is so over rated. And this is beyond awful.
  • Amazing. Sonically limited, but amazing.

This is a simply incredible collection. I’ve often described my favorite style of music as “folks sitting in a room, and the noises they make together” - and I don’t know if there is another recording that better fits this description. If you’ve loved Dylan and/or The Band, you NEED this set. You want the roots of Music From Big Pink and The Band? Here it is. Novices be warned, however, this was literally recorded in various rooms in houses in upstate New York, in 1967, and that’s what it sounds like. Anyone expecting this to sound like Sgt. Pepper, or any modern recording, will be disappointed. These recordings were never meant to be commercially released, and despite being the highest possible fidelity, the sonics are definitely limited. Anyone who can get past that limitation, however, will be rewarded with some of the most magical moments ever committed to tape. If you’ve ever dreamed of being a fly on the wall for some of the most important sessions in American music history, your dream just came true.
