Like another, had this on cassette in 1986 and played it when camping on the Big Sur Coast right over the Pacific. The music as majestic as the natural surroundings! Go on Branford Marsalis! Love his latest one released this month with Kurt Elling! check it out!

Romances For Saxophone is an album I've owned for 29 years now. It is the kind of album and music that will embed itself into your visceral and subconscious mind forever. Brandford Marsalis was but a young 24 year old Lion at the time of this prolific recording and displayed his wide range and mastery of the Classical music genre to the fullest. Even if you're not a fan of Classical music; you'll find yourself listening to the album over and over again. For me; it had withstood the perennial test of time and I was elated to add it to my iTunes Library and I have no doubt you too will find it one of your all time favorites! Don't Sleep On Romances For Saxophone! 🎼🎶🎷🎷🎷

If I could rule the universe, I am confident I could help us achieve world peace just by making everyone listen to this album once a week for the rest of their lives. This is true and transcendental beauty, and I've thought so for 27 years now.

Branford is a serious musician, and his impeccable control over a notoriously wiley instrument is well shown here. One of my favorites for the playlist and the playing, since it came out on vinyl. This should put the "Kenny G" fans in their place!
  • Marsalis' sound is SO BRIGHT!

While this album is certainly relaxing, we should consider the album for what it is: a classical saxophone album. Classical saxophone isn't exactly a novelty, and shouldn't be treated as it is in smooth jazz. Marsalis' sound is just far too bright for the music he plays. He crescendos into high notes without regard to the natural timbre of the high notes on his horn. Nice album for easy listening; not great example of exemplary sax playing.

I was away from home on a business trip and was not sleeping well in the hotel -- decided it was worth it to play this album in hopes it would help to relax and maybe get some sleep. It did make a difference that one night. Now, I listen to this album on red-eye airplane trips too. The music is so relaxing and delightful for listening. I would also recommend this for a quiet evening either when alone or with a significant other.

The melody and tone of Branford's interpretation on these is beautiful. Regardless of what "genre" of saxophone-related music you may normally listen to this album needs to be in your ipod library!

I bought this album on cassette over 20 years ago when I was just fourteen. It captured my attention then and is one of those timeless albums that never gets old. The multifaceted Brandford is truly talented! So glad to have found it on iTunes and am more than happy to shell out a few bucks again for this fantastically melodic and peace inducing work.
