I am a huge Sondheim fan and I think this is one of his finest works. One of the best recordings of any Musicals I've heard. His lyrics and music are unbeatable and the actors and actresses are sublime. It's a bummer that it does not have marry me a little but Raul Esparza does a great recording in the rival. Buy them both!

Company is one of the best musicals written by Sondheim in my opinion. It's incredibly moving, touching, and clever. This soundtrack is very worth it if you are a lover of Sondheim or good music. I have to say that i loved the revival I think that having the actors also play instruments was very clever, and Raúl Esparza is incredible. I do agree that some of the acting was less than par, but it was still fantastic.
Well worth it!

I grew up listening to Company with my mother, an avid Sondheim fan, so this recording takes me back to those shared afternoons when I was a little girl.
This recording captures the complexity of Sondheim's work and highlights the enormous amount of work the performers put into their work. Charles Kimbrough as Harry puts a lot of heart into his rendition of "Sorry/Grateful" and Beth Howland is absolutely hysterical as Amy, going to pieces on her wedding day in "Getting Married Today."
I prefer this version to the revival, although that may be for sentimental reasons.
(I will say I really liked the version recently staged at Lincoln Center with Neil Patrick Harris as Robert and Patti LuPone as Joanne, but it doesn't appear to be available.)

This is the TRUE Company i fell in love with when i was little. The bonus track that contains Larry Kert's version of "Being Alive" is rare and he does fantastic with this song. Even though i STILL love Dean Jones; Larry Kert IS Robert. But I love this album no matter what!

This is the finest broadway musical recording I have ever heard. It is nothing short of a masterpiece. When you listen to this album you can hear the craft and attention that went into producing and recording it. From "Sorry-Grateful" to "Ladies Who Lunch", there isn't a bad song. Anyone who believes that the 2006 Revival, English Revival, or 1995 Revival is better obviously doesn't appreciate the true art of producing a broadway album. This is a necessary piece for the collection. I hope everyone else can come to admire this album as I have.

I agree with the reviewers who prefer the original "Company." I saw the revival on PBS. Perhaps there was some Tony worthy magic that happened in the theater, but none of that came across in the teleplay. John Doyle has done his performers-play-the-instruments in a play in London, in Sweeney Todd and now Company. Enough. Put that gimmick to bed. I shudder to think what he would have done with the revival of a Chorus Line.
The revival featured characters who were unlikable, especially the loathsome Joanna, walking around pinging her triangle and being obnoxious. Elaine Stritch is far superior as Joanne. Why was Bobby even friends with any of these people? The costumes were ugly, the marching band finale obvious and silly.
Sondheim himself seemed to have loved it, but he's more sophisticated in his tastes than I am.
This Company is fabulous. It was my introduction to Sondheim , and I've been a fan ever since. The short documentary about creating this cast recording shows the love and perfection he put into it and what a triumph "Ladies Who Lunch is."

SO GREAT. I'm addicted to this show now! But to be honest I actually prefer Larry Kert's version of 'Being Alive.' (Both are great, however.)
I could listen to this all day, five stars. Entertaining and timeless.
nothing compared to the revival

ok, im just gunna say this. the revival is sooooo much better. its more simpler, which is what broadway needs. it took out all of the unnessecary instramental parts from this verson, and raul esparza is better than dean jones, bareley, but hes still better. so if you want to buy a better version of comapany, buy the revival.
