Excellent sports music that will give you the goosebumps, even without the movie playing. If you're a big fan of the film, you'll remember all the scenes from the movie as you listen to all these tracks... The granddaddy of them all, "The Final Game/Take Me Out to the Ball Game" is not properly previewed here in itunes.. there's more to the track, trust me. That's probably the one you're lookin' for...the Hobbs final at-bat where he puts on the fireworks display. Awesome music...

I remember hearing the prologue play across an open field at sunrise one morning while attending a hot air balloon festival. We were about the only people stirring. It is the best music you can listen to while watching the sun come up.

This could be my favorite movie of all time, and much of that is due to this magical soundtrack. I get goosebumps each and EVERY time that I hear "Knock the Cover off the Ball".....it just brings me back to that incredible scene in the movie. Joe in NH.
  • Great, but I think the samples are not the same as the real thing

I liked this movie and enjoyed the music, even though I'm not a baseball fan... I think there's a problem with the samples on iTunes; they sound synthesized, and unless I'm remembering wrong (which I could be), all the string parts were actually performed by an orchestra. So don't let the synthesized sound keep you from buying.

Randy Newman's score for The Natural is one of the best film scores ever written. The songs are poignant and majestic; they fit the scenes perfectly. He makes use of every instrument in the orchestra -- strings, woodwinds, brass, French horns -- to tell the story. Almost all of these songs have been used and re-unused in television commercials (The End Title will sound very familiar) and for good reason. They're well written and stand the test of time.

movie scores arent my cup of tea. the natural the song is great though. i mostly wanted to point out that "the natural" cant be given enough credit for helping randy write this soundtrack.
  • Great stuff, but...

...let's not lose our heads about this score's originality. I think Randy himself would acknowledge the obvious nods to Aaron Copland throughout this piece. Listen to 'Appalachian Spring' and 'Rodeo' to make a difinitive analysis of the source of 'inspiration' for numerous "Americana' musical moments. That being said - I truly cherish this movie and particularly the effective score that is such an integral part of the experience.
  • One of the best movie scores ever!

Randy Newman is a genius. Almost every sporting television event, including the olympics, uses parts of this soundtrack as background music. Wonderful!!!

Can't think of a movie anthem more plagerized. It's in commercials, sports shows, awards shows, and even in other movies! No better sports soundtrack. "Rudy" comes close. Probably in the top three movie soundtracks of all time. IMHO. He's been a machine that produces a great soundtrack every 2-3 years, and he's not finished, Check out "Cars". On a personal note: Want to forget your troubles? Listen to this album on any quiet park bench. 15 minutes: poof!
