  • what happened Anders??

Ash Wednesday Blues was my personal Bible - I studied the soulful slide guitar licks, the New Orleans tempo and marveled at the Tuba use throughout the album. I thought it was the perfect blues album and I listened to it daily for a long time. I saw him live In Raleigh almost a decade ago and thought, “that’s how I want my music to sound.” (At the time I was in high school and had been playing guitar for maybe 3 years). Flash forward 10 years and I can’t figure out what happened. I understand the need for an artist to grow and expand, but I can’t find a trace of the old Anders Osborne on any of the past albums. The creativity and soulfulness that I came to love from Ash Wednesday Blues is all but gone. Each song sounds so over produced and boring that I’ve given up. I’m either listening to hard rock, reggae, singer-song writer or pop - none of which reflect even the smallest hint of the previous version of Anders Osborne. If the current albums were any good despite the lack of blues then I’d actually give it more stars, but even his new style of music goes in one ear and out the other without a second thought. I bought this album out of habit, but this will be the last album I listen to...

Anders brings it home yet again - an amazing blend of musical intelligence and raw emotion - a colorful continuation of a true artists's journey, influenced so clearly by his hometown. Right on, Anders! Thanks for keeping it real!

This guy is amazing. The quantity and quality of music Anders has put out since he joined Alligator Records is simply ridiculous. If he keeps putting out music like this, Anders is bound to get the recognition he deserves. It's tough to say what songs to recommend off this album, but, as of right now, my personal favorites are let it go, I'm ready, sarah anne, and dream girl. You'd do well to just buy the whole album.

Like all his previous albums this one is addictive from the first song. Deep, meaningful lyrics. A good shot of psychedelia, tastefully done. Distinct Anders Osborne guitar and rhythm. Masterfully produced. It's all there. Like an eleven course meal, each song leads into and goes perfectly with the next. Who dat? Anders Osborne. That's who.
