Reviews

  • My second favorite Newsboys album

As I struggled rank three of their albums individually, I ended up placing this album on number two. This album was notably larger than their previous albums as it included eleven songs instead of ten, and it also introduces new members, Jeff Frankenstein and Phil Joel, ultimately making the band a sextet. As a matter of fact, I could consider all eleven songs in the album to be highlights. They retain their signature pop-rock sound in the title track, “Reality,” “Breakfast,” and “Miracle Child.” They also show their softer side in “Let It Go” and “Breathe (Benediction).” They also rock out with some of their heaviest songs to date: “God Is Not A Secret,” “Breathe,” “Cup O’ Tea,” and “Lost The Plot.” I would like to say that they even experiment with alternative music in “It’s All Who You Know.” This album is definitely showing more improvements and shows that the band is continuing to mature. However, when I stack this album up to Going Public, it just falls short. Here’s my new top ten: 1. Going Public 2. Take Me To Your Leader 3. Step Up To The Microphone 4. Not Ashamed 5. Shine... The Hits 6. Thrive 7. Go 8. Adoration 9. Devotion 10. Love Liberty Disco

I had a cassette tape of Shine... The Hits, and I played it on repeat! Then I went to their concert (my first) and this band has been solidified as one of my favorites ever since. This album is my childhood, and it was good.

Overall for my money this is the Newsboys best offering. Chock full of hits! My faves are, "God is not a secret", "Breakfast", "Take me to your leader", "Reality", and crown jewel, "Lost the plot".

Let me clarify: there are 4 Newsboys albums that I still love and listen to this day. This is the first one. Of course, it has great hits such as Take Me To Your Leader and Breakfast, but there are definitely underrated songs on here such as God Is Not a Secret, Cup ‘O Tea, and Lost the Plot. Buy this album. Totally worth it! Favorites: …ALL OF THEM!!!
