So few songs have the ability to grab your heart from the moment you hear it. This is the exception. The young soloist voice is what I'd like to imagine angels sound like. So clean, so pitch perfect, so sublime.

I found this soundtrack to be inspirational and original. It is beyond words of beauty. One of the best I have ever heard. A good introduction to classical music.
  • One of John Williams' strongest scores of the 80's

John Williams film music of the 1980's was HUGE. Almost everything score he composed during the 80's was gold and his music from Empire of the Sun is no exception. What sets his score for Empire of the Sun apart from much of his music from earlier in the 80's is the emotional depth and character development required for a story about inner strength and survival amidst the ravages of war. The main character of Jim in Empire of the Sun has to quickly grow up and transform from fanciful English boy in WWII-era China to a man, fighting for survival. Williams' score musically parallels Jim's development in a profound way as he witness the struggles of survival in a POW camp amidst death and misery. At the same time, his outlook is still youthful and optimistic as he navigates the pitfalls of the selfish world that he exists in. John Williams skillfully and masterfully intertwines these two drastically opposite emotions in powerful ways both melodic and by means of tempo. While at times musically intense and oppressive the score also reach heights of great symphonic beauty with a resonance of freedom and grace... signaling to us that Jim will survive the ordeal is he experiencing. John Williams score for Empire of the Sun will bring tears to your eyes and lift your heart in a way that will leave you feeling changed for the better.

The music to the film is very well done and original. I always enjoy listening to the music that John Williams creates. I am happy that's finally been release here on I-tunes. Now when are we going to see the "Jurassic Park" soundtrack on here?
